Today is really FRIDAY MAY 24, 2012 - Sorry about yesterday's post. Should have been Thursday May 23rd. I'm retired, am I really supposed to keep track of what day it is?
I came to the Chanute Library because they have wi-fi but it is soooo slow I can't even upload pictures. So sorry guys, you are just going to have to read about our adventures while we are in Chanute. When we leave here which will be sometime next week and I can get a better signal I will post pictures of what we did while in Chanute.
Wednesday night while we were at McDonald's my nephew Leonard Carder who lives in Bothell, WA stopped by and surprised us. He was on a business trip and came to Chanute to take his grandma Carder to dinner and then had to go back to Kansas City to catch a plane out on Thursday morning. Will post picture later.
Thursday we came to town and went to McDonald's so I could post my blog which I put the wrong date on. After doing that we visited the cemetery in Chanute where my parents are and then went to Katy Park and walked a trail which is where the old railroad tracks used to be. Walked from Katy Park up to the old Co-Op which is about 1 1/2 miles. Later that afternoon we went to Thayer where Lester was raised and visited the cemetery where his parents are buried. After that we went to dinner in Thayer at Big Ed's which was really good. Thayer is just a very small town with a population of about 3,000.
Today Leta, my sister-in-law, Lester and I came to Chanute and we parked our Jeep at the Chanute Municipal Airport which is a tiny airport and walked a trail from the airport west of town to 14th street over to Plummer over to Allen St passed the college back down to 7th street to the hospital and back to the airport. It was almost 3 1/2 miles total that we walked. We stopped at the hospital to rest and get a drink of water before going on to the airport. Will post picture of this walk later also.
Tonight we are going to Stark High School which is where I graduated from. They are having a bean feed on the grounds and the whole community comes and enjoys the feed. They cook beans outside in big pots. We are bringing cornbread and taking a table and chairs and will be eating outside. Will take pictures and post later.
Tomorrow evening will be the Alumi Banquet at the school. This is what we planned out trip around because this my 50th year class reunion. However because the school was so small all the classes who attended Stark High School are invited to the banquet which has always been held on Memorial Day weekend. Will take pictures tomorrow night and post later.
Sorry about not having any pictures today but from now on I will just go back to McDonald's and do my blog from there. It takes awhile to upload pictures but at least I can get them to upload which I was not able to do today.
Hope everyone is doing well and I promise I will post lots of pictures later and after we leave Chanute where I can get better internet reception.
