May 19, 2012 - Casper, WY
It rained here all night so we weren't sure what we would be doing today but the sun is shining and it is beautiful here. Today we went to the Fort Casper Museum and the Speas Fish Hatchery. Fort Casper was where 400-500 men of the 18th U.S. Infantry and the 2nd U.S. Calvary were housed. The post was abandoned in 1867 when the troops moved 50 miles east to build Fort Fetterman, which proved to be more easily supplied and a future jumping-off point for campaigns against the Sioux in the Power River country. It was very interesting to see and go through the various barracks, blacksmith shop, mess hall, commissary, etc. They had various horse-drawn modes of transportation in a barn. I have posted some of the pictures we took today. Hope you enjoy. We will be leaving Casper tomorrow and heading to Sidney, NE. Hope you enjoy! The last picture here is an oil dereck that was moved to downtown Casper, WY.
Those are great pictures. Keep them coming. I hope you guys are having a great time.
